From Tom Seaver to Dwight Gooden to Carlos Beltran, A look at the New York Mets past, present and future.

Just when it appeared things could not get worse for the 2009 New York Mets, we have the ugly incident involving the one remaining healthy Mets superstar, 3B David Wright. Baseball wise, quite simply this current roster cannot compete without # 5. It was bad enough without a Reyes, Beltran and Delgado, now you have removed the team’s best player and team leader. Watch any baseball team and take away their 1, 3,4 and 5 hitters for a pro-longed period of time and see how they would do. That is what we are now asking Jerry Manuel and the 24 members of this team to try and accomplish. The manager did not mince words Saturday,“It will be difficult for us. He has played through a number of things — nagging injuries, fatigue,” Manuel said of Wright, who had played in every game but one this season. “He was going out there for us every day.”
