Davey Johnson’s staff for the 2009 World Baseball Classic was finalized Tuesday and has several recognizable names to baseball fans. Joining Reggie Smith(Star OF in the 60s & 70s/ Hitting coach) and pitching coach Marcel Lacheman, are former players Mike Schmidt, Barry Larkin and Billy Ripken. Schmidt is considered by many to the greatest 3rd Baseman of all time while Larkin was the top Shortstop in the NL throughout the 90s. Ripken brings his playing experience(12 years) and  family legacy to the table.   

Team USA will announce more players for consideration on Monday January 19th (up to 45 candidates). Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim set up man Scott Shields was among the names released in Tuesday’s press release. His name was not reported previously.
