Mets 7, Giants 4 (25-9)
The Mets won their third game in a row behind strong games by Wally Backman and Darryl Strawberry. Backman went three for five with two doubles, two RBIs and a run while Strawberry went two for four with two doubles, two RBIs and a run. Leadoff hitter Mookie Wilson scored twice.
Ron Darling improved to 5-0 with seven solid innings. He gave up two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out four. The Giants staged a comeback on reliever Roger McDowell, but he got through a rough eighth and pitched a perfect ninth to finish off the Giants.
