Dwight Gooden was hit hard in the sixth inning for three runs as the Giants pushed out to a 4-0 lead. The Mets shaved the lead to a single run with two in the seventh and one in th eighth, but they weren’t able to finish the rally.
Gooden dropped to 13-5 on the season. He struck out ten but gave up four runs on six hits and three walks. Lenny Dykstra and Mookie Wilson had two hits and a run.
