Silva's arm, Soriano's bat leads Cubs over Mets 9-3

by @ 11:28 am. Filed under 2010 Mets

RH SP Carlos Silva threw 2 hit ball over 6 innings while LF Alfonso Soriano capped a three hit night with a 2 run shot in the 7th, leading the Chicago Cubs to a decisive 9-3 win over the New York Mets Wednesday night at Citi Field. Mets starter, Lefty Oliver Perez, battled for 5 innings, allowing 8 hits and 3 runs(two earned) while striking out 4. Olie walked 2 , threw 97 pitches(64 for strikes)  and tossed 16 1st pitch strikes to 26 Cub batters.  C Rod Barajas homered for the first Mets run while 3b David Wright and 2B Luis Castillo added rbi. The loss drops NY to 6-9 on the season with a 4-5 record at home.

ROSTER MOVES: Team DL-ed reliever Ryota Igarashi and promoted RP Manny Acosta pre game.

BAD BULLPEN: One of the few games in the early season that the relief corps pitched poorly. Acosta allowed 3 runs in 1 and a third innings, hi-lighted by Soriano’s 2 run homer. LHP Hisanori Takahashi allowed 3 9th inning runs on a bases loaded walk and a 2 run single from OF Marlon Byrd.

BELTRAN BRUISE: Reports have CF Carlos Beltran being told by his advisors to not resume running until the bone bruises in his knee are healed. I am beginning to think that #15 will not play a game this season.
