Mets 5, Pirates 1  (41-16)

The Mets extended their winning streak to four games behind Sid Fernandez’s three hitter.  The only run against him came in the first when rookie Barry Bonds scored on Mike Brown’s sacrafice fly.  In the final eight frames, Fernandez only gave up two hits and no walks.  He finished the game with eight strikouts.

Wally Backman went two for four with a run and RBI.  The Mets drew seven walks and they scored all five of their runs in the fifth inning.
