Santana pitches 7 strong as 4 run 6th powers Mets past Cubs, 5-2

Ace Lefty Johan Santana continued to pitch like Johan Santana while some of the Mets slumping batters came thru with clutch rbi, helping New York defeat the Chicago Cubs 5-2 Thursday night at Citi Field. 3b David Wright(2 for 11 on the recent homestand) doubled home the first NY run  whle RF Jeff Francoeur(1st RBI since April 16th, followed with his own rbi single in the 4 run sixth. Santana allowed 8 hits and 1 run while throwing 103 pitches(78 for strikes) to earn his 2nd win. Closer Francisco Rodriquez pitched an inning and 2 thirds for his 1st save of the year while rookie 1B Ike Davis added 3 hits.  The victory gives NY their first win in a series(3-1) in 2010 and the Mets stand at 7-9 with the rival Atlanta Braves coming to town this weekend.


GAME NOTES: Mets skipper Jerry Manuel plans to adjust the batting order this weekend, moving SS Jose Reyes into the 3rd spot. Lineup should be resemble this model: CF Angel Pagan, 2B Luis Castillo, Reyes, LF Jason Bay, Wright, Davis, Francoeur, C Rod Barajas, Pitcher….1B Mike Jacobs accepted a minor league assignment to Triple-A Buffalo after clearing waivers….Wright’s double, 225 of his career, tied long time 1B-OF Ed Kranepool for the franchise record
