Mets 5, Reds 1 (20-4)
The Mets won for the eighteenth time in nineteen games behind an impressive pitching performance by Ron Darling. Darling threw eight innings of three hit ball, and he struck out four Reds.
Gary Carter blew the game open with a two run homer in the bottom of the eighth that capped off a three run inning. Keith Hernandez went three for four with and RBI and run and George Foster had a solo homerun.
The Mets were only ten days into the second month of the season, and they already had a five game lead over the second place Expos.
