Mets 5, Phillies 3 (39-16)
The Mets won their series with the Phillies behind Ron Darling’s strong start and some solid pitching from the bullpen. Darling went six innings and improved to 7-2. He gave up three runs on six hits and he struck out six. Randy Niemann, Roger McDowell and Jesse Orosco held the Phillies to two hits in the final three frames. Orosco earned his eleventh save of the season.
Ray Knight homered and drove in two runs and Gary Carter was one for three with two RBIs. Mookie Wilson went two for five with two runs.
