Cubs 8, Mets 5 (69-34)
The Mets dropped their second straight game to the Cubs in pretty ugly fashion. Starter Sid Fernandez was beat up in his 5 1/3 innings and he gave up five runs on eight hits and three walks. The Mets actually tied the game at 5-5 on Keith Hernandez’s big three run homerun but Roger McDowell was shelled in the bottom of the eighth and he gave up a three run homerun to Jerry Mumphrey that put the Cubs up for good.
Mookie Wilson and Tim Teufel both scored twice as Davey Johnson was forced to go to his secondary lineup against lefty Jamie Moyer. Wilson hit his seventh homerun of the season and Keith Hernandez hit his ninth.
