Mets 5, Cubs 0 (96-50)
The Mets swept their two game miniseries with the Cubs by hitting rookie stater Greg Maddux hard in the fourth inning and with a strong outing by Rick Anderson. The Mets tagged Maddux for four runs in the fourth and by the end of the inning, the Cubs were looking to their pen.
Anderson improved to 2-1 on the season as he shutout the Cubs through five innings. J. John Mitchell and Randy Myers closed the game out by combining for four scoreless innings.
Howard Johnson had the big hit of the game. His three run shot in the fourth put the game away. He also walked twice and stole two bases.
