The Mets ended their three game skid with a solid pitching performance by Rick Aguilera. Aguilera went eight innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on eight hits and he struck out nine. Jesse Orosco didn’t give up a hit as he pitched the final inning to earn his thirteenth save of the season.
Gary Carter drove in two runs and Darryl Strawberry went one for four with a run and an RBI. Wally Backman had the only multihit game for the Mets. He went two for four with an RBI and a run.
