Cubs 4, Mets 2 (69-33)
The Mets three game winning streak came to an end at the hands of Dennis Eckersley and Lee Smith. The two pitchers combined to hold the Mets to two runs on only five hits.
Ron Darling dropped to 11-4 with a lackluster outing. He gave up four runs on nine hits but he did strike out seven.
Kevin Mitchell had two of the Mets five hits and he scored a run. Mookie Wilson and Rafael Santana drove home the two Mets runs. Oddly, three of the Mets five hits were for extra bases.
