Mets Win Another Series, Magic Number Now Stands at 12

by @ 4:36 pm. Filed under 2006 Season

Another weekend, another series win.  Not much to say here except more of the same.

The bad news about Friday was, Tom Glavine was roughed up.  The good news is two fold.  One, he was on the mound.  Two, the Mets still won.  Glavine lasted five innings and he gave up six runs on seven hits and two walks in the no decision.  Guillermo Mota picked up his first win as a Met and Bill Wagner saved his 33rd game.  On offense, David Wright drove in three runs and Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado each scored two runs in the 8-7 win.

John Maine was awesome yesterday.  He gave up two solo homeruns in 6 1/3 innings and he picked up win number 5.  Wagner saved his 34th and Cliff Floyd drove in two runs in the 4-2 win.

The Mets couldn’t pull of the sweep, although it wasn’t for lack of pitching.  Roy Oswalt outdueled Orlando Hernandez and the Astros pen was a little bit better then the Mets.  The only run for the Mets came on Carlos Delgado’s solo homerun.  It was his 35th of the year.

The Mets could wrap things up this week, although they’d need some perfection so we’ll probably have to wait until next week.  The Wild Card still isn’t certain so we won’t know who the first round opponent is either.  The Mets have three against the Braves this week.
