Phillies 6, Mets 5 (93-48)
The Mets lost for the fourth time in five games in a close affair with the Phillies. The Mets jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead on rookie starter Greg Maddux in the first inning and the Phillies responded with two runs in the fourth and sixth to tie the game. Two more runs in the seventh for the Phillies effectively put the game away.
Roger McDowell was hit hard in relief and dropped to 13-8. He gave up four runs on three hits and two walks in two innings of work. Starter Bob Ojeda gave up two unearned runs on three hits through five innings.
Lenny Dykstra hit his eighth homerun of the season and Ray Knight had two hits and two RBIs. Mookie Wilson and Keith Hernandez both had two singles.
