Mets 9, Pirates 0 (108-54)
The Mets finished their season with a dominating win and a five game winning streak (nine wins in their last ten games) as they swept the Pirates. Ron Darling and Sid Fernandez combined for a four hit shutout in which they struck out eleven batters.
Gary Carter and Darryl Strawberry both hit homeruns. It was Carter’s 24th and Strawberry’s 27. Ray Knight also went yard for the eleventh time in the season.
With only two days rest, the Mets had get ready to square off against the Houston Astros in the NLCS.
