Mets 5, Expos 3 (47-21)
The Mets avoided a sweep at the hands of the Expos by coming up big with four runs in the fourth inning. With the Expos up 2-0, Keith Hernandez grounded out to first. Darryl Strawberry doubled and moved to third on George Foster’s groundout. Kevin Mitchell doubled and drove home Strawberry and then Ray Knight singled home Mitchell. Ed Hearn walked, and then Sid Fernandez helped out his own cause by singling home Knight. Lenny Dykstra then capped off the inning with an RBI double to give Sid Fernandez a little extra insurance.
Fernandez improved to 9-2 and went six innings. He gave up two runs on six hits and five walks while striking out five. Roger McDowell threw the final three frames without giving up a run to earn his sixth save of the season.
