What a series. You had an almost blown game that turned into a come from behind thriller, and then you had a classic extra inning pitchers dual. This is what you’d expect from two of the top teams in the National League, and like they’ve done most of the season, they came out on top.
On Monday, the Mets jumped out to a 4-1 lead only to give that up. Then they blew a 6-4 when the D-Backs scored three in the seventh, and as the Mets entered the bottom of the ninth, they were down by a run. Jose Reyes tied the game up with an RBI single, then David Wright ended the game with a walk off RBI single of his own. Cliff Floyd and Valentin homered and Paul LoDuca had four hits in the game. Duaner Sanchez picked up the win and he’s now 2-0.
Tuesday was the downer. The Diamondbacks scored two runs in the first inning and never gave up the lead in a 7-2 blowout. Soler took the loss and he got hit hard. Seven runs on eight hits and three walks in five innings. Valentin had the only RBI of the game and Cliff Floyd had two hits and a run.
Yesterday was just a classic matchup. Brandon Webb went head to head with Pedro Martinez and neither disappointed. Martinez threw eight shuout innings and he struck out eight. Billy Wagner then threw two shutout innings and Duaner Sanchez then picked them both up and threw three shutout innings to pick up his third win. Endy Chavez singled home Valentin in the bottom of thirteenth to account for the only run of the game.
San Francisco comes to town this weekend. Looks like Bonds is dinged up so he might not even play much. And the Giants sit in the cellar of the NL West. I’m going to go out on a limb and predict a sweep.
