From Tom Seaver to Dwight Gooden to Carlos Beltran, A look at the New York Mets past, present and future.

It’s going to happen sometime early next week. The Mets are going to win their first NL East division title since 1988. 1988 was also the last time they won 100 games. If the playoffs started today, the Mets would play the Padres in the NL Division series.
This series didn’t start well though. Chuck James held the Mets to a single hit and Steve Trachsel was bounced in the fifth inning. Seven walks won’t get it done and Trachsel dropped to 14-6.
Tuesday’s game was rained out so the Mets and Braves played two today. In game one, Dave Williams outdueled John Smoltz and he picked up another win. The Williams pick up looks like another good one by the Mets. He gave up a single run on five hits through six innings of work. The pen did their job as well and Wagner finished things up with his 35th save. Carlos Delgado and Shawn Green both homered in the 4-1 win.
Oliver Perez did the job in game two. He pitched a five hit shutout and he picked up his third win (vs. 11 losses) of the season. Shawn Green homered again and he drove in two runs. Jose Reyes went yard and Carlos Beltran scored twice in the 8-0 win.
Next up is four against the Dodgers, who could be our opponent in the NLCS. We’ll see how the two team match up.
