Mets Finish Sweep of Pirates in Eleven Inning Win

by @ 12:05 pm. Filed under 1986 Mets Diary - September

September 28, 1986 at Three Rivers Stadium

Mets 4, Pirates 1  (103-53)

The Mets completed their sweep of the Pirates with another eleven inning pitchers dual.  Bob Ojeda had a one run lead and a three hit shutout when Jim Morrison hit a solo homerun with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.  Both teams got two batters on in the tenth, but neither scored.

In the top of the eleventh, Mookie Wilson and Tim Teufel struck out to start the inning.  Lenny Dykstra and Gary Carter followed that up with back to back singles, and then Darryl Strawberry hit a huge three run homerun to put the game away.  Reliever Rick Aguilera put the Pirates down in order and he walked away with his ninth win of the season.
