Mets 4, Padres 2 (27-11)
The Mets took their series with the Padres by topping them in the rubber game in eleven innings. The Padres opened up the game with two runs in the first inning off of starter Bobby Ojeda, but Ojeda calmed down and threw a gem the rest of the way.
The Mets scored a single run in the third inning on Darryl Strawberry’s RBI single and then they tied the game up in the eighth on another RBI single by Strawberry. Bob Ojeda went nine innings and gave up two runs on seven hits but he walked away without a decision.
In the top of the eleventh, Darryl Strawberry singled and Rafael Santana popped out to first. Strawberry stole second base and then Mookie Wilson drew a walk. Strawberry and Wilson then pulled of a double steal to put two men in scoring position. Howard Johnson was walked intentionally to load the bases up, and then Padres reliever Lance McCullers threw a wild pitch that Strawberry scored on. Ed Hearn drew a walk to once again load up the bases, and then Jesse Orosco helped out his own cause by driving home Wilson with a sac. fly.
Orosco pitched the final two innings without giving up a hit as he improved to 1-2. He walked two and struck out one.
