Mets 5, Padres 4 (26-11)
The Mets came from behind with a big fourth inning to get back on track. The Padres put three runs on the board in the second inning against starter Bruce Berenyi, but he calmed down a pitched a nice game the rest of the way. That allowed the Mets to get back in it.
And get back in it they did. In the top of the fourth inning, Kevin Mitchell, Keith Hernandez and Gary Carter singled in succession to put a run on the board. Darryl Strawberry flew out and then George Foster made it a one run game with a sacrafice fly. Tim Teufel singled to put runners on first and second, and then Rafael Santana cleared the bases with double to give the Mets a one run lead.
They added an insurance run in the fifth when Gary Carter drove home Mitchell with a single. The run proved to be neccesary as the Padres put a run on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning. But the usual duo of Roger McDowell and Jesse Orosco held the Padres in check through the final three innings to seal up the victory. Orosco earned his seventh save of the season by pitching a perfect ninth.
