Mets Continue to Ride Big NL East Lead, Drop Two of Three to Marlins

by @ 3:48 am. Filed under 2006 Season

Yeah, the Mets dropped two games to Marlins and yes, the Phillies have won eight of their last ten.  All of that is good for just a twelve game lead in the NL East.  Best I can calculate, the Mets magic number is 44.  Time to start counting it down.

Billy Wagner blew the game on Tuesday.  He gave up a two run walk off homerun to Josh Willingham in the ninth that blew a 5-4 lead.  Mike Pelfrey continues to adjust to the big leagues and he was okay.  Carlos Beltran continued his hot hitting and he went yard with number 33.  Jose Reyes hit his tenth homerun and he scored three times.

Steve Trachsel was given a solid lead and he rode that to his tenth win of the season.  Jose Reyes had stolen base number 44 and he scored twice.  Paul LoDuca had three hits in the 6-5 win.  Billy Wagner got the job done this time and saved his 23rd.  He struck out the side in the ninth.

We had a pretty good pitching matchup yesterday with Dontrelle Willis facing Pedro Martinez.  Martinez left the down 1-0 but he threw a very good game.  Aaron Heilman gave up three runs in the eighth that ended up being the difference.  Javier Valentin had three hits in the game.

Next up is three against our so called rivals in the NL East, the Phillies.  Time to take out the trash.
