Mets 12, Cubs 3 (72-34)
The Mets won their five game series against the Cubs and won their third game in a row in a blowout. The Cubs scored twelve runs on sixteen hits as Cubs starter Scott Sanderson and the relievers that followed him were pummelled.
Each of the Mets nine starters got a hit. Keith Hernandez went three for five with two runs and two RBIs. Gary Carter hit a three run homerun and Danny Heep hit a solo shot. Ray Knight went four for five with two RBIs.
Lost in the hitfest was a solid start by Rick Aguilera. Aguilera went the distance and gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts. He improved to 6-3 on the season.
