The Mets signed veteran righthanded starter Livian Hernandez to a minor league deal over the weekend and is not someone new to GM Omar Minaya. Minaya had Hernandez in Montreal/Washington from 2003 to August 2006 and sited the need for veteran insurance in a release. The younger brother of ex Met Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez, boasts a 147-139 career won loss record with a 4.37 era. He is best known as an innings eater(200 + 8 seasons in a row), he posted a 13-11 record with a 6.05 era over 180 innings split between the Minnesota Twins and The Colorado Rockies. The Cuban born Hernandez also can contribute with the bat, with a career .233 average with 9 home runs and 75 rbi.
Mets Manager Jerry Manuel is considering moving superstar SS Jose Reyes down in the batting order and maybe moving 2b Luis Castillo to the leadoff slot.
