From Tom Seaver to Dwight Gooden to Carlos Beltran, A look at the New York Mets past, present and future.

Mets starter John Maine found out the hard way Tuesday night why many consider the Colorado Rockies one of the best teams in the game as the righthander was pummeled for 3 innings as New York lost 11-3. Maine, who threw 75 pitches to 20 batters, allowed 8 hits and runs while walking 4 and striking out 3. He clearly lacks something stuff wise at this stage of the season. Colorado LF Seth Smith(who backed up NY Giants QB Eli Manning at Ole Miss) had a homer and 3 rbis for the Rockies while 2B Clint Barnes, RF Brad Hawpe and SP Greg Smith drove in 2 runs apiece. Bright spots? SS Jose Reyes had 2 hits, 3B David Wright hit his 2nd home run of the season and LF Jason Bay drove in his 1st run as a Met. The loss, the 3rd in a row for NY, drops them to 2-5. Start looking for vultures around skipper Jerry Manuel, a good man who clearly does not have enough arms to compete with this rosters current state.
MANUEL MATTERS: In his postgame comments, Manuel sounded like a man who is considering pulling Maine from the rotation. The eyes do not lie, he is not effective right now and cannot put hitters away. Shame on GM Omar Minaya for not adding starting pitching to this club.
MR. SMITH: The Rockies starter was outstanding, throwing 7 innings of 6 hit ball. He allowed 2 runs and walked 2 while K-ing 8. He was ahead of the Mets hitters all night(22 of 28 1st pitch strikes) and kept NY off balance from pitch 1.
SNY=SNL: I hope Mets fans realize how lucky they are to have Keith Hernandez and Gary Cohen in the booth(add an absent Ron Darling to the equation), the game was so bad they took fans calls late in the SNY broadcast. Keith talked about his diet(down to his playing weight:210) and crushed the steroid era cheats who registered earth shattering stats in 2001.(4 NL players with 100 extra base hits) Great TV on an otherwise bad night.
NEXT GAME:
