Mets 4, Pirates 3 (37-15)
For the second straight game, the Mets jumped out to an early lead (4-0) only to see the Pirates stage a comeback that fell just short. Kevin Mitchell had a monster game as he went three for five with three RBIs as he helped push the Mets to a 4-0 lead. Sid Fernandez had a shutout through six innings, the Pirates tagged him for three runs in the seventh.
Fortunately, Roger McDowell and Jesse Orosco were able to keep the Pirates at bay. McDowell pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up only one hit, and then Orosco came into to get the final batter out to earn his tenth save of the season.
