Mets 7, Cubs 4 (49-21)
The Mets won their third game in a row behind a huge game by Darryl Strawberry. Straw went three for four with his tenth homerun of the season, three RBIs and two runs. Wally Backman went three for four with two runs and Gary Carter drove in two runs. George Foster hit his thirteenth homerun of the season.
Dwight Gooden was shaky but he earned his ninth win of the season. He picked up another complete game and he gave up four runs on ten hits and three walks while striking out six.
