Mets 6, Pirates 4 (36-15)
The Mets jumped out to an early lead and withstood a comeback attempt by the Pirates. Two errors by the Pirates in the third inning led to four Mets runs and while the Pirates chipped away at the 5-0 lead, they could never take the lead.
Keith Hernandez scored two runs and Darryl Strawberry and Ray Knight both had two hits. Dwight Gooden went seven innings to improve to 8-2 as he gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits and four walks. He struck out five batters. Jesse Orosco pitched the final two frames to earn his ninth save of the season.
