Davis sacrifice fly ends Marathon as Mets defeat Astros 3-2 in 14

by @ 9:42 pm. Filed under 2010 Mets

SS Jose Reyes had a season high 4 hits and scored on a sacrifice fly from 1B Ike Davis for the decisive run as the New York Mets defeated the Houston Astros 3-2 in 14 innings Wednesday night at Minute Maid Park in Texas. Mets starter R.A. Dickey(8-5,2.41) was great and was 2 outs away from a 2-1 win when 2B Geoff Blum homered to right. Dickey, who allowed 9 hits and two earned runs while striking out 6 while walking 1, helped his own cause when he drove home the Mets 1st run with a double in the 7th. The victory puts NY at an even .500(60-60), they have now taken 2 of 3 from the Astros in the series.

As great as Dickey was, the NY bullpen was equally dominant. New closer Hisanori Takahashi(Save,4.09) threw an inning and a third without allowing a base runner. Bobby Parnell(4 holds, 3.38) followed, K-ing 3 in 2 frames while retiring 6 straight.  Elmer Dessens(3-1,1.76) worked around 2 hits in the 13 to earn the win while Manny Acosta needed 5 pitches to earn his 1st save for the Mets.

METS STARTING LINE-UP:  Reyes, LF Angel Pagan, 3B David Wright, CF Carlos Beltran, Davis, RF Jeff Francoeur, C Josh Thole, 2B Ruben Tejada, Pitcher

GAME NOTES:  Wright left the game in the 12th after hitting a single. He became  nauseous in the 4th inning and was throwing up as well. He hopes to take some medication and play in Thursday’s series finale…. Reyes stole 2 bases while Pagan took one, they have 26 and 29 on the season…. Davis had gone 0 for 19 before his 13th inning single… The MLB Players Union has filed a griecance against the Mets for putting Francisco Rodriquez(Thumb surgery) on the disqualified list without pay… SS Angel Sanchez, LF Carlos Lee and Blum had 2 hits for Houston… Mets 2nd run scored via a Pagan 7th inning fielders choice
