David Wright and Pedro Martinez

by @ 2:30 am. Filed under 2006 Season

The Mets dropped three of four to the Nationals this weekend.    It’s hard to tell whether this matters or not because the Mets have little to play for. It’s just worrisome because the track record of teams that clinch early isn’t all that great.  Hopefully Willie Randolph is keeping the boys in check.

David Wright hit his first homerun in September in the lone Mets win.  While his numbers still look nice, Wright has only hit five homeruns since he made a run in the Home Run Derby at the All Star Game.  The net result of this is a more then 100 point drop in OPS.  It’d be nice if Wright got out of this extended slump and maybe pulled together a post season MVP or something.

Pedro Martinez makes his final tune up start on Wednesday.  The games only on locally so I won’t be able to tune in but I might listen in to see how Pedro is doing.  It sure would be nice if he did a number on the Braves.

Living in CA, I only get to hear, read or see the Mets when they’re on TV. I’ve been a true fan since 1963–senior year of college.
I didn’t know about 40th year celebration. So sorry I didn’t get to vote. But so glad Tug McGraw was able to attend. I would have voted for the 1969 Mets as my favorite moment or Mets team. Maybe a lot of those people died, and more people became fans since, but the 1969 club was WAY MORE special than the 1986. Come on! Gil Hodges!!! And I can not start naming players. And, I even think 1973 Series beats the 1986. Don’t get me wrong, I loved them all–even the 2006 until the last pitch in the NL playoffs series.
My personal favorite was sitting behind the Mets dugout during a July game at Shea in 1988 and getting Harrelson’s autograph. I love the Mets!!!
I just hope they keep Pedro. He’s like a Tug McGraw in clubhouse spirit. Annie
