BREAKING METS NEWS: Wright avoids DL stint, homers on 1st pitch he sees, NY win 5-0

by @ 8:20 pm. Filed under 2012 Mets

The New York Mets got an unexpected boost Saturday when star 3B David Wright(Broken right pinkie) was medically cleared to play then homered on the first pitch he saw in Saturday’s 5-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in Pennsylvania. Wright took batting practice earlier in the day, had no issues and was inserted into the lineup. Just having their #3 hitter and team leader escape a stint on the disabled list seemed to energize the Mets and they continued their strong April. The win puts NY at 6-2 on the year, their best start since 2006 when they won the National League East and advanced to the NLCS.
