From Tom Seaver to Dwight Gooden to Carlos Beltran, A look at the New York Mets past, present and future.

Doctors have advised all star shortstop Jose Reyes to rest without physical activity for a period of 2-8 weeks, while he deals with an overactice thyroid. He is likely to start the season on the disabled list and the Mets will start either veteran INF Alex Cora or rookie Ruben Tejada(my choice!) at the spot. The positive news out of this? This condition is treatable and not considered serious.
BLOGGERS OPINION: This is not good but people need to calm down. This is not the 2009 version of the NY Mets, this club has made significant improvements at 3 positions offensively(LF, C and RF) comparable to the 2009 opening day lineup(A club many picked to win the World Series, raise your hands, Sports Illustrated!). 3b David Wright has looked great in camp and Luis Castillo is better than u think.(Look at his stats!) This is a solid offense without them, a great one with. This club would surely be better with Reyes and CF Carlos Beltran on it from day 1 but the key to this team is real simple: Oliver Perez, John Maine and Mike Pelfrey must be good, if they are not, this team will be bad. Reyes or no Reyes, Beltran or no Beltran. Plain and simple.
