Mets GM Omar Minaya just finished a brief with the media, here are some of the hi-lights.
- Closer Francisco Rodriquez has left the team to deal with a family issue in Venezuela. He is expected to rejoin the team on Opening day.
- SS Jose Reyes will open the season on the DL, staying in St. Lucie for an extended spring training. No time table on his return but speculation has it sometime next weekend.
- The club will start the season with 12 pitchers.
- 1B Daniel Murphy will also start the season on the DL with a sprained MCL. He is expected to miss 2 to 6 weeks, this leaves Mike Jacobs as the likely opening day first baseman. Chris Carter(.407 BA with 4 homers in 15 spring games) is the other option out of camp.
