BREAKING METS NEWS: JOSE REYES MEDICALLY OK-ED, WILL RESUME BASEBALL ACTIVITIES WEDNESDAY

by @ 8:05 pm. Filed under 2009 Mets

The Mets received the best news of Spring training so far when superstar shortstop Jose Reyes was medically cleared to resume baseall activties Tuesday. According to team officials, he will join the team Wednesday and has not been ruled out for Opening day on April 5th. Reyes left the team almost 3 weeks ago after tests during a physical exam detected an overactive thyroid. He was ordered to rest while monitoring his diet for a period(Seafood is being blamed for this outbreak due to the iodine content) that ranged from 2 to  8 weeks. #7 and the Mets have escaped a potentially catastrophic situation with a  best case scenario health wise. Reyes, internal issues aside, looks to be in tremendous condition and mentally, this has to lift both he and the team.  Add this to the rumors that CF Carlos Beltran is progressing well and might be back as early as May 1st, and the news generating from Port St. Lucie is positive.

BLOGGERS OPINION: Mets should procede with caution regarding their shortstop. While it would be nice to have him  back  on day 1, the season is a marathon. Reyes is coming off surgery and if management has any apprehension here, they should go the safe  route. With the recent history regarding the Mets and injuries, the club cannot afford to botch this!
