Mets Outfield options key heading into 2017

by @ 8:18 am. Filed under Uncategorized

The status of two key middle of the order bats and corner outfielders will go along way in determining the Mets fortunes in 2017. Yoenis Cespedes, a franchise changer for  NY, can opt out of his deal within 5 days after the World Series and become a free agent. Jay Bruce, proven All Star and power stick, has a club option for 1 year at $13 million. I think these two are interconnected and will more than likely return. #52 loves NY and Bruce has seen the other side of MLB(Truly Bad team in Cincinnati in 2016), Mets GM Sandy Alderson will control this more than people realize. Cespedes, in particular, has less options than he thinks. The Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs do not need an Outfielder. The NY Yankees are in full rebuild mode. LA Angels are a mess and the LA Dodgers have a glut of Outfielders and still have  no idea what to do with Yaseil  Puig.  Famous for bailing out stars looking to get paid owner Mike Ilitch of the Detroit Tigers also appears to be in cut back and rebuild mode. If the Mets are reasonable, they can keep Cespedes with a good offer. The rest of the team with these two signed takes shape with 3 Other Major League Outfielders on the roster w CenterField experience: Lefthanded hitting Juan Lagares and righties Curtis Granderson and Alejandro De Aza. Youngsters Michael Conforto and Brandon Nimmo, both lefty sticks, are also in the mix and can play some center as well. My expectation for 2017 is the Mets have an excellent Outfield. Even if Cespedes walks, this team could sign a free agent stick and/or trade for another star level Outfielder(Colorado Rockies CF Charlie Blackmon- IDEAL!!) to off set any loss. I like this position and unit heading into 2017. #LGM

Mets enter offseason with major questions including Yoenis and TC

by @ 8:15 am. Filed under Uncategorized

The Mets won the National League in 2105 and made the wildcard in 2016 but enter 2017 with several issues yet to be resolved. The team has potential openings-competition at 3 of the 4 infield positions but both internal major league options and trade possibilities. Two of the premier corner outfielders in the sport-Yoenis Cespedes and Jay Bruce- have contract issues(#52 can opt out of deal 5 days after World Series and Bruce has club option). New York also does not have an ideal centerfield option and Travis d’Arnaud health and poor production has made catcher a question mark. Loveable and productive fan favorite Starting pitcher Bartolo Colon is also a free agent. Heck, even vital back up pinch hitter extraordinare  Kelly Johnson needs new deal. Behind the scenes, Manager Terry Collins suggested this week 2017 might be his final season due to age,health-quality of life issues. The next couple of months should be fun and interesting.

Season comes to sudden halt as Bumgarner, late homer dooms Mets 3-0

by @ 7:11 am. Filed under Uncategorized

Madison Bumgarner and Noah Syndergaard came as advertised and dominated the National League Wild Card Game Wednesday night, making both the Mets and Giants hitters look silly. What decided the game was an area of strength for the Mets- their bullpen- giving up a decisive 3 run home run to Conor Gillaspie CONOR GILLASPIE  in the 9th. NY closer Jeurys Familia, he of 50 plus saves and 1 hr allowed all year, was a bit wild and it caught up to him when Gillaspie deposited a high pitch into the Mets right field bullpen. At this point, I was on the floor at the Garage Bar(Our new addition at Pizza House-Ann Arbor). NY went quietly in the 9th and Bumgarner was the 1,2 and 3 star of this game. The Mets season ends with back to back playoff appearances for the 1st time since 1999-2000. Much more commentary and news in the coming days. Today, I want to salute this team. MLB network showed last years Game 5 World Series lineup and the team was completely different than last nights. The 2016 New York Mets accomplished a lot. We will be better and back in 2017. Last night was hard. REAL hard. But this is a team you can and should be proud of. Only 1 team is happy when the season ends. Mets fans need to remember that and this team today. #LGM

The Game is here….

by @ 1:22 am. Filed under Uncategorized

Mets fans its Wednesday. The Day is early but the game is here. San Francisco Giants vs the New York Mets at 8 pm for the right to face the Chicago Cubs in the National League Playoffs. Bumgarner vs Syndergaard. I am a big Noah guy, have his jersey. I famously said after 2015 I would guy the jersey of the Mets pitcher who threw at Chase Utley. The man has stones and throws rocks. I like the fact that he is the “other” pitcher in this game. Mets power vs Giants Pitching. SF is the only team in MLB without a player that hit 20 home runs. Meanwhile the 3 players starting the game in the Mets Outfield have all hit 30: Yoenis Cespedes, Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce. A huge advantage for NY in bullpen where the Mets have Familia and friends vs a Giants unit that blew more games-saves than any team in the sport. CitiField will be rocking: be loud and proud Mets fans.#MakeNoise  This team has come too far to lose today. #TheyWont #LGM

Mets win #1 Wild Card spot, face tough San Francisco Giants Wednesday Night at Citi Field

by @ 9:28 pm. Filed under Uncategorized

The New York Mets overcame an incredible amount of injuries to stars on all levels and secured the top seed in the National League Wild Card race Saturday night in Philadelphia. Credit Manager Terry Collins for the entire season but his now famous rant after the team was dead and buried after a home sweep by the Arizona Diamondbacks in August was key to the teams strong finish. Just an incredible final quarter by this team and anything the Mets do beyond this game is gravy. Noah Syndergaard draws Madison Bumgarner in the single game elimination format. This should be a great contest and Mets fans everywhere should be proud of this team.  More updates as they become available. #LGM
